Be Slow to Speak

James 1:19

James gives a short, practical command: be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Simple to say, hard to practice — especially at home.

Listen before you respond.

Most conflicts get worse because someone stopped listening too soon.

Slow your response down.

A pause before you speak prevents a lot of regret.

Manage your anger, don't just release it.

Anger given free rein tends to damage more than it fixes.

Ask questions instead of assuming.

Assumptions escalate arguments. Questions usually de-escalate them.

Value understanding over winning.

Being right in the moment isn't worth losing the relationship.

Dad Takeaway: You can't take back words spoken too fast. Slow down before you speak.
