Teaching Your Kids to Worship

Psalm 78:4 says, “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord.” As dads, one of our greatest privileges is teaching our kids how to worship.

Worship isn’t just about Sunday morning songs — it’s about living a life that points to God’s greatness.

But kids learn worship less from lectures and more from example. Do they see you singing in church, even off-key? Do they see you bow your head in prayer at home? Do they catch you reading Scripture, not for show, but because you hunger for God’s Word?

Worship is contagious. If your kids see you engaging authentically, they’ll learn it’s normal to give God attention and affection. But if they see you disengaged, distracted, or treating faith as an obligation, they’ll likely follow suit.

Practical ways to teach worship:

  • Sing with your kids — in the car, at bedtime, during family devotions.

  • Pray out loud — not perfectly, but honestly.

  • Celebrate answered prayers together.

  • Read short Scriptures as a family, even if it’s just a verse a day.

You don’t have to be a theologian. You just have to be real. When your kids see faith in action, they’ll carry it into their own lives.

Dad takeaway: Worship isn’t taught by lecture. It’s caught by example.
