Joy That Isn’t Seasonal

Scripture: “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” — Nehemiah 8:10

Joy is different from happiness. Happiness is emotional — it rises and falls with circumstances.

Joy is spiritual — it flows from God’s presence, not our performance.

For many dads, December can feel heavy. The pressure to provide, the busyness, the exhaustion — it can sneak in and steal joy without us even noticing. But biblical joy isn’t a feeling you have to chase; it’s something God deposits into those who stay close to Him.

Nehemiah told the people that the joy of the Lord was their strength. Strength to rebuild. Strength to endure. Strength to stay faithful. For you, dad, joy is fuel. It helps you love when you’re tired. It helps you keep going when you feel stretched.

Practice joy by:

  • Slowing down to laugh with your kids

  • Letting little moments be big memories

  • Noticing God’s goodness in ordinary things

  • Choosing gratitude when life feels thin

Joy isn’t a mood. Joy is a stance. And your kids will remember the dad who could smile, pray, and stay grounded even when the season got crazy.

Dad Takeaway: Don’t chase joy — anchor yourself in the God who gives it.
