Raising Kids to Serve

Our culture teaches kids to ask, “What’s in it for me?” But Jesus taught a better way: “The greatest among you shall be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). As dads, we get to raise kids who see serving not as weakness, but as strength.

That starts at home. Teach them to help with chores, care for siblings, and look for ways to bless others. Let them see you serving — your spouse, your church, your neighbors. Invite them into it.

Serving develops empathy, humility, and perspective. It reminds kids that life isn’t about self-promotion, but about loving God and loving people.

The best legacy you can leave isn’t successful kids, but kids who serve others.

Dad takeaway: Greatness isn’t about being served — it’s about serving. Teach your kids to serve.
